Even as kids reach adolescence, they need more than ever for us to watch over them. Adolescence is not about letting go. It’s about hanging on during a very bumpy ride.
Ron Taffel
What was it like when you were a teenager? It is a difficult time when we have to negotiate the bumpy road between being a child and becoming an adult. It is when we start to separate from our parents and start to establish our independence. But all sorts of challenges can arise in this time.
Sometimes teenagers struggle with issues such as relationships, identity, what they want from the future, friendships and family changes. They can also need extra support when difficulties happen at home or at school such as divorce, separation, bereavement/loss, exams and pressures at school and distressing events happening within their friendship groups. In these circumstances they may benefit from having someone to talk to outside of their friends and family and teachers. Providing a confidential space I offer young people a space to talk or use other methods such as art and play to express some of these difficulties.
